Dr. Laing is a vet and infectious disease epidemiologist based in London UK.
She started her career in rural large and small animal practice in north England before completing a PhD at the University of Liverpool at the Institute of Infection and Global Health. Her PhD at the University of Liverpool was part based in Ethiopia looking at the respiratory health of working horses.
While completing her fieldwork in Ethiopia she became interested in the One Health approach and how research evidence is applied in practice. After her PhD she moved into health policy and completed a policy internship at the UK’s foremost science academy, the Royal Society. Subsequently, she joined the UK Parliament, working for the only vet in the House of Lords.
Dr. Laing now works for an international human health charity as a Policy Adviser in One Health, focusing on how to use the approach to tackle Neglected Tropical Diseases. She is also secretary of the European Network for Ecohealth and One Health (part of EcoHealth International) and an adviser to the Lancet One Health Commission.
